About me. Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

Be the best or don’t be: “I always wanted to be a painter. Since I was a girl. But I realised that after Picasso, Miró, Tapiés,… there wasn’t much left to do.” Agatha Ruíz de la Prada knew from the outset that her vocation was to create art and fashion in a single concept.

Agatha took her first steps in the world of fashion in 1980, as an assistant to the top designer of the “Movida madrileña”, one of the most important cultural and liberal movements of 20th century democratic Spain. It was in this environment that Agatha Ruíz de la Prada developed as a designer and participated and became a part of this ground-breaking movement.

Her first fashion shows presented fresh, daring and amazingly colourful collections; features that have never left her designs.

"When fashion is inspired by art."

To define the concept behind “Agatha-world” one would have to say: “Agatha, the designer who designs herself”. Agatha creates a world around fashion, a happy world, full of light and a never-ending array of colours. She has been influenced by other designer who came before her or who coincided with her beginnings, such as Andy Warhol and Miró: both have made their mark on the Agatha style.

To agathize. Few designers can allow themselves the luxury of having creating a concept that everyone understands.
